A Claude Twitter setup takes one connector: connect Claude to X, then ask it to write, schedule and check your posts and threads without leaving the chat. Setup takes about 2 minutes, and you don’t need an X developer account.

I’m Anton, founder of PostHero. I built our Claude connector, and I use Claude for my own X account. This guide covers the setup, what Claude can actually do on X, the X rules that trip people up, how the options compare, and the prompts I use.

  1. Step 1: Connect your X account

Create a PostHero account and connect your X account. X asks you to approve access on its own screen, so Claude never sees your password.

What you need for X specifically

  • A normal X account. Free or Premium both work. You connect it to PostHero through X’s own login screen, so Claude never sees your password.
  • No developer account. PostHero holds the connection to X’s API. If you go the DIY route (more on that below), you’d need your own X developer app and pay for API usage yourself.
  • Any Claude plan. The Free plan allows one custom connector, which is all this needs.

Running more than one X account? Connect all of them in PostHero. Claude sees each one and can write a different version for each, which matters on X more than anywhere else (see the rules section). If you post on other platforms too, the same connector covers them: here’s how to connect Claude to all your social media.

Can Claude post to Twitter?

Yes, once it has a connector. On its own, Claude can only write a tweet as text for you to copy. With PostHero connected, it can save that tweet as a draft, schedule it, or publish it to your X account when you say so, and then read back how it did.

Here’s what Claude can do on X through PostHero:

  • Single posts up to 280 characters.
  • Threads. Claude writes the whole thread and saves it as one draft, split into posts.
  • Images or video: up to 4 images per post, or one video. They need to be public links, so upload your own files to your PostHero media library first, then tell Claude to use them.
  • Scheduling for any date and time you give it.
  • Analytics: impressions, likes, replies, reposts and follower numbers for a period, plus your top posts ranked by the metric you pick.
  • Own text per account when one idea goes to several X accounts.

One thing to know if you pay for X Premium: X lets Premium users post much longer than 280 characters, but through PostHero every post is capped at 280. When an idea needs more room, ask Claude to make it a thread.

How I use Claude for Twitter

Most of what I do with Claude on X is boring on paper. I give it a rough idea and ask it to turn it into a tweet. Or I paste something I wrote and ask it to check my language before it goes out.

The part I didn’t expect is the ideas.

Claude already knows a lot of my context, because it’s connected to the tools I work in and I talk to it about my work every day. So when I’m stuck, I don’t stare at a blank box. I ask what I should post, and it comes back with things like: “You could write about the struggle with that client you described after your last call.” That’s a real thing that happened to me, it’s specific, and I’d never have thought of it as a tweet. Claude has basically become my idea bank.

This is the biggest difference between using Claude and using a tweet generator. A generator knows your niche. Claude, in a chat that knows your week, knows what actually happened to you. And on X, what actually happened to you is the content.

I also don’t post the same format every time. Some days it’s a single post, some days a thread, sometimes something longer. I prefer variety, and Claude makes it easy to try the same idea in a couple of formats before picking one.

What goes wrong (and what I tell Claude instead)

Three mistakes I see constantly, and made myself:

  • General AI slop. Ask for “a tweet about productivity” and you get a tweet nobody needed. The fix is giving Claude something real to work with: an event, a number, an opinion you actually hold.
  • Copying LinkedIn straight to X. A good LinkedIn post cut into 280-character pieces is still a LinkedIn post. It reads stiff and long-winded on X.
  • Too polished, too expert. The “here are 7 lessons I learned” voice that works on LinkedIn sounds like a press release on X. People there reply to humans, not to experts performing.

So my standing instruction is short: write for X in a casual style, and don’t pitch anything. That one line fixes most of it. No product mentions, no “follow for more”, no call to action. If the post is good, people find out what I do from my profile.

Write this for X in a casual style, like I’m talking to a friend. Don’t pitch anything, no calls to action, no hashtags. Keep my words where they sound like me. Show me the draft before saving it.

Claude Twitter rules worth knowing

X is stricter about automation than most platforms, and a few of its rules hit AI workflows directly.

Don’t post the same text from several accounts. X’s automation rules don’t allow identical posts across multiple accounts. If you run a personal account and a company account, “post this to both” is exactly what you shouldn’t do. With PostHero, Claude writes each account its own version of the idea instead. You can ask for that directly:

Post this idea to both my X accounts, but write each one its own version: first person and casual for my personal account, shorter and more factual for the company account. Save both as drafts.

Connect through the official login. Some Twitter tools for Claude log in with your browser cookies instead of X’s API. That’s unofficial access and the kind of thing that gets accounts flagged. PostHero connects through X’s own sign-in.

Keep a human in the loop. Everything Claude makes in PostHero starts as a draft. It schedules only when you give it a time, and it publishes right away only when you say so and confirm once more. I built it that way on purpose. An AI that tweets from your account without asking is a liability.

Claude Twitter connectors, compared

There’s no official X connector inside Claude, so every option is either a third-party tool or something you build. Most do the core job fine. The differences are in what else they cover and how much setup they ask of you.

Option Networks X developer account Schedules Stands out for
PostHero 8 ✅ Not needed ✅ Yes, draft first X plus 7 other platforms in one chat
OpenTweet X, Bluesky, LinkedIn ✅ Not needed ✅ Yes X-first tools, evergreen queue
Postory X, Threads, Bluesky ✅ Not needed ✅ Yes Approval page, shadowban checks
Blotato 9 ✅ Not needed ✅ Yes Publishing at a flat price
X’s own MCP server X ❌ Required ❌ Posts right away First-party, deep search of X
DIY with the X API X ❌ Required If you build it Full control

Based on each vendor’s own pages, checked 4 November 2026.

The honest version:

  • Pick OpenTweet or Postory if X is basically your only platform and you want a tool built around it.
  • Pick X’s own server or the API if you’re a developer who mostly wants to search and read X data from Claude, and you’re fine paying X per call.
  • Pick Blotato if you make your media elsewhere and just want Claude to publish across many networks.
  • Pick PostHero if X is one of several platforms you post on and you want one idea turned into a proper X version, a LinkedIn version and so on, from the same chat. That’s the job I built it for.

Get ideas from your own context

Based on what we’ve talked about this week, give me 5 things I could post on X. Each one should come from something that actually happened to me, not general advice. One line per idea.

Turn an idea into a post or a thread

Here’s my idea: [idea]. Write it two ways for X: a single post under 280 characters, and a thread of 4-6 posts. Casual, no pitch. Show me both, and I’ll pick one to save as a draft.

Check the language in this tweet. Fix grammar and anything that sounds unnatural, but keep my wording and tone. Don’t make it more polished than it needs to be: [tweet]

Adapt from LinkedIn (properly)

Here’s my LinkedIn post. Don’t split it into shorter lines. Rewrite the idea for X from scratch: casual, opinionated, no expert tone, no call to action. Save it as an X draft.

Schedule and review

Schedule the X drafts we made today: one on [day] at [time], the thread on [day] at [time], in my time zone.

Show me my top 5 X posts from last month by impressions. Did threads or single posts do better, and what should I post more of?

Using ChatGPT instead?

The same connector works there too. PostHero speaks MCP, the standard both Claude and ChatGPT use for connectors, so you add the same URL (https://mcp.posthero.ai/mcp) as a custom connector in ChatGPT and sign in to PostHero. Your X accounts, drafts and analytics are the same ones Claude sees. Everything in this guide applies, including the casual-style instruction, which ChatGPT needs at least as much as Claude does. I explain why I built it to work with any AI agent in PostHero goes agentic.

Why isn’t Claude posting to Twitter?

  • The connector is off in this chat. Connectors are switched on per conversation. Click +, open Connectors and turn PostHero on.
  • Claude finds no X account. You probably signed in to a different PostHero account than the one where you connected X. Sign out of the connector and sign in again with the right one.
  • The draft saved but won’t publish. Usually one post is over 280 characters. Ask Claude to fix it or split it into a thread; it sees the same warning.
  • Your image won’t attach. Claude can’t pass files from the chat to PostHero. Upload the image to your PostHero media library, copy its link, and give that to Claude.

FAQ

Can Claude post to Twitter on its own?

No. Claude has no built-in connection to X. It can write tweets as text, but to save, schedule or publish them it needs a connector like PostHero.

Can Claude write Twitter threads?

Yes. Ask for a thread and Claude writes it as separate posts, each under 280 characters, saved as one thread draft. You can review and edit it before it’s scheduled.

Is it free to connect Claude to X?

On the Claude side, yes: the Free plan supports one custom connector. PostHero has a 7-day free trial, so you can test the whole workflow before paying.

Will Claude post to X without asking me?

No. Everything starts as a draft. Publishing needs your explicit go-ahead plus one confirmation.

Can I manage several X accounts from Claude?

Yes. Connect them all in PostHero and tell Claude which one to use. If one idea goes to several accounts, Claude writes each its own version, because X doesn’t allow identical posts across accounts.

Does it work with my other platforms too?

Yes. The same connector covers LinkedIn, Threads, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok and Bluesky. The guide to connecting Claude to social media shows what Claude can do on each one, and the Instagram guide goes deep on reels and carousels.
